Culpable Behaviour: Roving Rogue Rave - Free Jazz Improv with Grahame Beakhust, Colin Brodie, Dwight Chalmers, Alistair Dickson, Jerry Englar, Leida Englar, Watson Jenesen, Alice Norton & friends. Performance at Exhibition Opening on Sept. 11 at 7pm and spontaneous outdoor performances on weekends throughout the exhibition. Also, every Tues. 8 to 10 pm at 4 Second Street, Ward’s Island.
The Forays: Saturday September 11th, Jazz ensemble with Leida Englar, Jerry Englar, Dwight Chalmers and Baye Hunter. Performances at The Shaw House honouring the garden and vintage Islanders. Wende Bartley: Wende Bartley, composer, sound artist and long term tenant at Artscape Gibraltar Point, will be performing "Sounding Dream Woman", one of the works from her upcoming Temple Project CD & DVD at the Rogue Wave Opening Event, Sept, 11. Temple Project features a series of pieces composed from recordings made in ancient sites in Crete and Malta. "Sounding Dream Woman" is inspired by the Sleeping Lady of Malta statue found in the underground Hypogeum Temple in Malta. It combines both vocal and instrumental recordings made in the Hypogeum and live improvisational performance.
Jacquey Malcolm and Anne Bourne perform original compositions for two cellos and one voice at the opening event Saturday Sept 11 at 7pm at Artscape Gibraltar Point, all other performances will be at Luisa Milan's installation Hydro-Glyph at the east end of Ward's Beach. Dates:

Celebration of the Life of Gwendolyn MacEwen: Memorial Service and Candlelight Vigil with poetry reading and free improv
When: Sunday 17th October 2010 : 6:30 p.m.
Where: #10 Second St. Ward's Island
Why: in celebration of the life and work of distinguished Canadian writer/poet/playwright/novelist, the late Gwendolyn MacEwen - who lived on the island at the above address in the early 1960's and was the Librarian at the Island Public School, now ArtScape Gilbraltar Point. The reading library at the present Arts Centre is named in her honour.
Who: Alice Norton, Luisa Milan and Christopher Pinheiro have created a Spirit House in her memory, at the very site where she once lived. The Rogue Wave installation is titled "Bohemian Embassy" after the Toronto nite spot where the young Gwendolyn MacEwen first spoke her poetry in public. In attendance as lead reader will be poet RoseMary Sullivan, author of "Shadow Maker" the authorized biography of Gwendolyn MacEwen. Various other readers will perform, to live music. Contributions of candles, drinks and eats and the loan of fold up chairs will be most welcome.
